Resonate : creating experiences

inspiring future generations of musicians by providing rural areas with access to quality music education, performances, and instruments.
"Music expresses that which cannot be said and
on which it is impossible to be silent.” ― Victor Hugo
Rural towns. Young people. A lifelong passion.
In rural communities across the Midwest, students have far fewer resources to access the inspiration, exposure, and education to become creative, confident, passionate musicians and artists. Resonate is changing that through Inspire Performances.

In this performance series, a professional-level chamber ensemble travels to a school and perform an interactive concert. What makes them truly special, however, is the open discussion afterwards. The performers have a unique focus of explaining their interpretation of the piece and how they made their musical decisions—even selecting various sections in the music and playing it alternative ways. Finally, they then share their own stories, experiences, and advice on music-making.

The final result: a performance that gives students rare insight and exposure to high-level musicians & their thought process.  The piece-by-piece demonstration of how they interpreted the music and all the decisions involved in creating the final product--the performance--inspires students to think actively about how they can grow as empathetic, nuanced performers.

Investing in rural students' musical education does more than create thrilling & emotional performances, it leads to  creative, dedicated, involved community members and future leaders.

Testimonials

I grew up on a farm about ten miles away from the nearest town of about 700 people. I know that music and the studying of music had such a profound impact on me as a person and in the growth. Music still plays that same role with future students in small towns and it is important that we continue to support our music programs, big and small. Music belongs to everyone!

- Darcy Brandenburg, Davies Band Director

It's not often that our small
town kids can see the potential opportunities that can arise from a commitment to their music education.  So thankful for these college students being willing to share their talents!"

- Olivia Schlotman, Northwood,ND Band Director

It was great!  Thanks so much for bringing in music to our schools that our students normally wouldn't hear.

- Jeremy Marquardt, Mayville, ND Band Director
